You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection – Buddha

With Valentine’s day, right around the corner, I thought it would be fitting to post this outfit of me wearing this vibrant magenta pink outfit. Anyone who knows me knows that I’m very particular when it comes to wearing pink. I either like a shade that is extremely bright and vibrant or a more toned down pale pastel pink. I don’t know what it is but that has always been my attitude towards this color. So, in the spirit of Valentine’s day, cheers! && I’d like to know, what does this day mean to you?

In my opinion, it’s somewhat of a big marketing ploy designed to convince us that this is the ONE “special” day made only for lovers. One where the expression of love should be amplified by gifting flowers and chocolate and making intimate dinner plans at fancy restaurants. A day where we either shower our significant others with sweet gestures that expresses our appreciation for their involvement in our lives or the day when we finally find the courage to approach that one person who takes our breath away and ask them THE question, “Will you be my Valentine?” In my opinion though, this is a concept that celebrates people who have been so fortunate to be lucky in love and forgets about those who are still waiting for that magic moment to happen in their lives.

I’ve always regarded this day as a celebration of self-love first and foremost. Love of oneself translates to love of all life. Before you can truly go out and bear the responsibility of loving another, you must truly love every part of your own being first with all your faults and imperfections.

On this Valentine’s day, commit to pampering yourself first. Buy those flowers because they’re not any more special coming from someone else. Have a moment with yourself and indulge in your favorite chocolate. Treat yourself! Just don’t forget that it’s a day for LOVE and the first and most precious love that we should revel in is the love of SELF! Also, remember that this should not be restricted to just one day, we should be celebrating and loving ourselves every single day.

With Love,
