We are grateful that we have our health, families and jobs. But not all Americans are as fortunate, especially this year. This is why I am donating $50 to NYC Food Bank to provide 250 meals to families in need of a hot meal. Do you start feeling yourself a little extra when you put in the effort to actually get dressed? Yea, me too. These days, that's an actual accomplishment so patting myself on the back here for getting dressed today 🙂
On a separate note, Thanksgiving is just 2 days away and I can't believe it. It definitely won't be the same festive vibe as Thanksgivings past with the restraints of COVID. Maxim and I will be doing a low-key dinner at home with Pluto and connecting with our families virtually. How will you be celebrating?

Born from intention and fluid in interpretation, the beauty of Art is that it speaks where words are unable to explain, evoking feelings unique to every individual who comes in contact with it.
I posed for my friend @mcandegirmenci back in the Summer and I had no idea what he would make with those photos. He ended up painting this extraordinary portrait of me! Hanging at about 4 feet wide and 5 feet tall, Oil on Canvas, it's massive in size but evokes a feeling of calm and serenity in me. Painted with acute attention to detail, capturing my inherited characteristics down to the expression on my face, I think it portrays the essence of a person I sometimes forget to be - meditative, pondering, and still - all of the things we sometimes need to be reminded of in our every day rushed lives.
When we support independent artists, we're not only buying a piece of art, we're bringing beauty into our lives AND providing the artist with more time and opportunity to continue creating. Memet Can worked on this piece for about 5 months and it's evident he put his heart into it. For me, this piece is priceless because of the joy it brings and will be with me for many years to come. WE'RE ENGAGED!! I am so thrilled to share with you Gems, that Maxim did the deed and I said YES 💍. The feeling of knowing that I get to marry and spend the rest of my life with the person I love with every inch of my body is Incredible.
I know they say most girls dream up their wedding day from a very young age but I was never that type. I was more in love with the idea of Love itself. I dreamt up the qualities I wanted in the person I'd love and who'd love me back just the same and then some. Someone intelligent, ambitious, kind-hearted, open-minded and someone whose love I could feel wholeheartedly. I am so lucky to have met that person in Maxim. From day 1 when we met at St. John's University, we were inseparable. He'd make time to walk me to the shuttle or subway station and made sure I got home safely, he'd always show up on time for dates, he'd be there whenever I needed support emotionally, and he'd be my biggest cheerleader pushing me to pursue my dreams at my lowest points. It's been 8+ years since we first locked eyes and like any couple, we've had our ups and downs but life with him has been an incredible journey. I remember when we first met, we made a promise that we'd have fun with each other, go with the flow, put communication at the forefront, and most importantly, respect each other.
I always say, if someone loves you, nothing will stop them from getting to you and if they don't love you, nothing can make them stay. Never settle for a half-baked love that's not for you no matter the pressures that society might impose. Focus on you first and your love will make its way.

It's a new day in America! It feels like a giant w

It's a new day in America! It feels like a giant weight has been lifted off of my shoulders and I hope you guys are feeling the same way. Sun is shining, the fall foliage look a bit more vibrant and random passerbyers on the streets of New York City seem a bit happier on this Monday. It's a historic moment that we are living in and I just want to take this moment to appreciate how far we've come together as a country and the collective trauma that we've been through in the past 4 years. To all of those who voted this past election and participated in the democracy, Thank You!⁣⁣

The glass ceiling has been shattered! We have the first female Vice President! And a biracial woman of color at that. As a fellow Jamaican, I can tell you that my whole family is ecstatic about Kamala Harris representing our community in the highest office of the land. And I hope she will be an inspiration, and she already is, to thousands of little girls across this country and the world who will want to follow in her footsteps and challenge the patriarchy so entrenched in our society. Yes SHE did and Yes YOU can!!
