Today let’s talk about creativity and different brain types. Do you ever wonder why some people are obsessed with taking notes and others operate much better in their head without putting anything on paper? Or why some people are morning people and some are night-owls (🙋🏾‍♀️)? Some people rely on constant feedback from others and some love to operate independently and only get feedback at the end of the project? This list can go on and on. The folks at Project EVO planners were wondering the same thing and they came up with an idea that surprise, surprise not everyone has the same brain type! And therefore such things as planning, creativity, work ethic, and feedback is individualized and varies from person to person. And based on my personal experiences, I couldn’t agree more!

Project EVO was kind enough to send me one of their day planners personalized based on my brain type. They argue that there are 4 main brain types that control how we operate: Alchemist, Oracle, Explorer, and Architect.

Alchemists gravitate toward the abstract and theoretical. They prefer experimenting with their ideas in the real world, and develop a lot of their key ideas while interacting with other people. They are mostly focused on the future and all the possibilities it holds.

You need Variety & To Share Discoveries to thrive.

Famous Alchemists include Albert Einstein, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Ellen Degeneres.

Explorers tend to prefer dealing with information that’s more concrete and in the real world. They learn best by experience. They tend to be very present in the moment, and highly engaged with their five senses.

You need Fun & Adventure to thrive.

Famous Explorers include Beyoncé, Richard Branson, and Walt Disney.

Oracles gravitate toward the abstract and theoretical but focus on developing their ideas primarily in their minds, and then bring them out to share with others when they’re more fully formed. They tend to bounce between past, present and future quite a bit in terms of what they’re most aware of in a given moment.

You need to Disconnect & Find Focus Time to thrive.

Famous Oracles include Oprah, Elon Musk, and Steve Jobs.

Architects are linear, detailed thinkers who often identify with the idea of having a filing cabinet for a brain. They pay a lot of attention to the past, as it helps inform them about the future and how they can best plan for it. They usually spend a lot of time developing their ideas or thoughts before sharing them with others.

You need Order & Balance to thrive.

Famous Architects include Michell Obama, Arianna Huffington, and Henry Ford.

I took their test and I got *drumroll, please * Oracle! And I totally see it. I like to express myself, have an overarching, single focus for the week, and I struggle with repetitive tasks and practices. Maxim got an Alchemist because he is always cooking up something in that brain kitchen of his and gets bored very easily.

What brain type do you think you would fall under? Take the EVO test below and let me know in the comments!

  1. I completed this and it confirmed my hunch–Alchemist primary and Architect secondary. Interestingly, my husband was the opposite–Architect primary and Alchemist secondary.
Seems eerily on pointe–I am curious about the planner and may just try one to see if can improve some of my weak points 🙂
