Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.

Life is beauty, admire it.

Life is bliss, taste it.

Life is a dream, realize it.

Life is a challenge, meet it.

Life is a duty, complete it.

Life is a game, play it.

Life is a promise, fulfill it.

Life is sorrow, overcome it.

Life is a song, sing it.

Life is a struggle, accept it.

Life is a tragedy, confront it.

Life is an adventure, dare it.

Life is luck, make it.

Life is too precious, do not destroy it.

Life is life, fight for it.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw this dress at H&M was Victoria Bechkam, particularly because of the length and the form-fitting cut. I added a broach at one of the cutout sides for effect but I believe that adding two broaches, one at each side would make it look great and accentuate the waistline.

Have A Wonderful Day G(em)s!!!

When things go wrong as they sometimes will, When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill, When funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh.

When care is pressing you down a bit. Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns.

And many a failure turns about When he might have won had he stuck it out: Don’t give up though the pace seems slow – You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out – The silver tint of the clouds of doubt. And you never can tell how close you are. It may be near when it seems so far: So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit. It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.

It has been a while since I’ve posted on here. We all have those moments in our lives where HUGE changes are made and over the past 3 months I have made some spur of the moment decisions. I’ve learned that sometimes we need to give up planning every moment of our lives and just go with the flow and allow things to fall into place. That’s what I’ve been doing and I couldn’t be happier. So I’ll be posting a lot more now 🙂

Have a Lovely Day G(em)s!!!

There are days when nothing seems right. When every shell you pick up on the winding shore is broken. When the silken treasure slips through your fingers too quickly. When comforts are empty. And the world is noise.
On those jagged edged days, when the wind is screaming for a reason only she understands. And you find yourself all alone.Turn your face to the sun.
There is goodness in the world, that even the river of tears cannot erase. There is love in the world, that the numbed armies of fear can not destroy.
Sometimes that goodness is everywhere apparent. It pours from the heart of every moment. From the light of every smile. On those soft days, love hides in the eaves to drop like sweet honey on your forehead and sings her lilting lullabies in the arms of the winds.
But on some days, Beloved. On days like today….We need to look, to see. So turn your face to the sun. Even when she is nowhere to be seen. Go inside yourself. Find a speck, a splinter of beauty to be grateful for. ‘Yes’, the day has worn you. And ‘Yes’ our mistakes have been so many.
But say ‘Thank you’ anyway. Take account of all that is in your possession. A mind. A heart. A body. A life that breathes, even if for just one more day. Now count the eyes that have smiled at you on your wild journey, the hands that have held you tenderly, the ears that have listened, the prayers that have been made on your behalf.
And whisper your ‘Thank you’ again. Count the sky that has watched you grow with His painted eyes, The heaving waves that find their echo in the tides of your breathing, The little birds that have sung you their songs, The stars which have been a lamp to your path, and are your rightful inheritance.
Count unexpected laughter, Count undeserved grace, Count Passion and Love making and Dreams yet to be born, And bow your head and say ‘thank you’, Now count the lives who still need your light, The hungry, the sick, the helpless, Count the children who will die today and imagine if with the breath of your body you could help just one.
Turn your face to the sun, And know yourself as a child of the light. You are the Goodness that cannot be extinguished, The love that burns through the darkest night.
And perhaps, In turning You will see what I have seen, that this day where everything seemed wrong, was not your curse, It was your gift, Your chance…
To find inside yourself a forgotten ‘thank you’, To smile in the face of the grim suppressors, To stand in the heart of the glowering darkness and turn your face to the sun.

I apologize for the lack of posts G(em)s. I found this beautiful poem and I had to share it. Inspiring words like these are what keep me on track when life takes a toll. When everything seems so wrong and all you  want is for your life to fall into place perfectly again. All you have to remember is that it Will, and keeping a positive attitude will get you to that place even faster.

Hope you all have a wonderful Day!!!

Women are often chided for wanting to be beautiful, but the truth of the matter is that beauty and fashion are just alternate forms of taking care of yourself. Beauty means that you are healthy, happy and in control, and these are the things that a prognosis of a serious illness like mesothelioma or uterine cancer tries to take away from you.

If you have been doing the grim round of doctors, or even if your treatment is over and you want to get back to your life, it can be hard to take care of yourself the way that you would like. When you are feeling a bit at a loss, see how beauty and fashion can affect the way that you live.

For example, think about accessories. Accessories are small and manageable, and you’ll discover that it takes very few of them to dress up a common or plain outfit. If you want to start small with beauty, accessories are definitely the way for you to go.
Start with a scarf that you truly love. A good scarf is one that has a bit of color and detail, and which goes with many different things in your wardrobe. When you want a glam fifties look, tie it around your wrist. If you need a little bit of color on your person, wear it as a belt.
A scarf threaded through the belt loops on a pair of jeans looks wonderfully bohemian. Loop the scarf around your neck or even use it to tie back your hair. The possibilities for a simple rectangle cloth are immense.
Remember that you should start with a good foundation of garments. There are garments that are so wonderfully versatile that you can customize them to any effect that you want. While many designers suggest that you build off of the color black, others recommend that you start with a range of colors that you love.
For example, if you are someone who adores earth tones, make sure that you have a good selection of garments that are brown, warm gray or cream.

Similarly, if you prefer natural tones, choose your garments by selecting cool greens and blues. A small amount of planning before you head to the mall can help you create a very solid look.

Choose clothes that make you happy both when you wear them and when you look at them. Clothes let you add your imprint to the world, and if you choose carefully, you can make that imprint look very personal indeed.

Think about the colors that express who you are, and design an outfit that only you could wear. Emphasize your best traits by selecting things that are suited to your tastes and leave behind anything that isn’t perfect. Remember that if you don’t love it, you don’t need it!

If you are ready to reclaim the person you are, or even to figure out who you want to be, consider your clothing. Fashion is a tool, and you are ready to use it!

I had the pleasure of being contacted by Jackie Clark, the author of this article, who does outreach for  the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance, a leading web resource for mesothelioma cancer. She has always had a passion for fashion-from shoes to makeup, nail polish to handbags, and everything in between! Coupled with that is her belief that all women need to feel beautiful, no matter what circumstances they may be facing. Women are powerful beings and WE need to realize it! Sadly, many women are hearing those devastating words ‘you have cancer.’ Despite a cancer diagnosis, women can still feel beautiful in their own skin. Jackie believes that Fashion is a wonderful way to feel strong and confident. I agree with her wholeheartedly. She is an inspiration to many women who lack the confidence they need. You can ALL check out her other inspiring writings HERE!!

To believe is to know that every day is a new beginning.
It is to trust that miracles happen, and dreams really do come true.

To believe is to see angels dancing among the clouds, To know the wonder of a stardust sky and the wisdom of the man in the moon.

To believe is to know the value of a nurturing heart, The innocence of a child’s eyes and the beauty of an aging hand,
for it is through their teachings we learn to love. To believe is to find the strength and courage that lies within us.
When it is time to pick up the pieces and begin again. To believe is to know we are not alone,
That life is a gift and this is our time to cherish it. To believe is to know that wonderful surprises are just waiting to happen,
And all our hopes and dreams are within reach. If only we believe.

I took complete advantage of a BEAUTIFUL summer like day in NYC. I Hope you are ALL having an Amazing week 🙂

“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes…

the ones who see things differently —

they’re not fond of rules…

You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them

because they change things…

they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones,

we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world,

This was a quote by Steve Jobs that I found very Inspiring 🙂

Have a Beautiful Day G(ems)!!!
LOVE Always,

Lots of things might happen. That’s the thing about writers. They’re unpredictable. They might bring you eggs in bed for breakfast, or they might all but ignore you for days.

They might bring you eggs in bed at three in the morning. Or they might wake you up for sex at three in the morning. Or make love at four in the afternoon. They might not sleep at all. Or they might sleep right through the alarm and forget to get you up for work. Or call you home from work to kill a spider.

Or refuse to speak to you after finding out you’ve never seen To Kill A Mockingbird. Or spend the last of the rent money on five kinds of soap. Or sell your textbooks for cash halfway through the semester. Or leave you love notes in your pockets.

Or wash your pants with Post-It notes in the pockets so your laundry comes out covered in bits of wet paper. They might cry if the Post-It notes are unread all over your pants. It’s an unpredictable life.

But what happens if a writer falls in love with you?

This is a little more predictable. You will find your hemp necklace with the glass mushroom pendant around the neck of someone at a bus stop in a short story. Your favorite shoes will mysteriously disappear, and show up in a poem.

The watch you always wear, the watch you own but never wear, the fact that you’ve never worn a watch: they suddenly belong to characters you’ve never known. And yet they’re you. They’re not you; they’re someone else entirely, but they toss their hair like you. They use the same colloquialisms as you.

They scratch their nose when they lie like you. Sometimes they will be narrators; sometimes protagonists, sometimes villains. Sometimes they will be nobodies, an unimportant, static prop. This might amuse you at first. Or confuse you. You might be bewildered when books turn into mirrors. You might try to see yourself how your beloved writer sees you when you read a poem about someone who has your middle name or prose about someone who has never seen To Kill A Mockingbird.

These poems and novels and short stories, they will scatter into the wind. You will wonder if you’re wandering through the pages of some story you’ve never even read. There’s no way to know. And no way to erase it. Even if you leave, a part of you will always be left behind.

If a writer falls in love with you, you can never die.

I found this lovely poem floating around Tumblr  and I had to share it. I must say, I’m all for that unpredictable Life 😉

I’ve noticed that I have collected a whole lot of Blues, Lace, and Pencil Skirts. I have become obsessed with all three and they are all reflected in this look, but what I am looking forward to are the Spring Pastels!!

I hope You are all Having a Beautiful Day

Love Always,

~ Opal ~

Maybe love has always been
Maybe we made up hate
Maybe we don’t find God because we don’t look
Maybe this is heaven

Maybe we invented hell
Maybe there is always hope
Maybe we pretend there is not
Maybe we know all the answers

Maybe we ask the wrong questions
Maybe we can share this world
Maybe we don’t have to fight
Maybe we wrote the script

Maybe this is our choice
Maybe we need to learn
Maybe we need to remember
Maybe we forgot who we are

Maybe we will recall the truth
Maybe we can relax
Maybe we can all calm down
Maybe we can recognize each other

Maybe we can recognize ourselves
Maybe it is all a dream
Maybe we will soon awaken
Maybe there is no mine
Maybe there is no yours

Maybe there is just ours
Maybe we know this
Maybe we just don’t realize it
Maybe we soon will

After awhile you learn
the subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul
and you learn that love doesn’t mean possession
and company doesn’t mean security.
And you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts
and presents aren’t promises and you begin to accept
your defeats with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of an adult not the grief of a child.
And you learn to build your roads today
because tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain for plans
and futures have ways of falling down in mid-flight.
After awhile you learn that even sunshine
burns if you get too much so you plant your
own garden and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure
that you really are strong
and you really do have worth
and you learn
and you learn…

Stay Precious G(ems)

A man is at his finest towards the finish of the year; He is almost what he should be when the Christmas season is here; Then he’s thinking more of others than he’s thought the months before, And the laughter of his children is a joy worth toiling for. He is less a selfish creature than at any other time; When the Christmas spirit rules him he comes close to the sublime.

When it’s Christmas man is bigger and is better in his part; He is keener for the service that is prompted by the heart. All the petty thoughts and narrow seem to vanish for awhile And the true reward he’s seeking is the glory of a smile. Then for others he is toiling and somehow it seems to me That at Christmas he is almost what God wanted him to be.

If I had to paint a picture of a man I think I’d wait Till he’d fought his selfish battles and had put aside his hate. I’d not catch him at his labors when his thoughts are all of pelf, On the long days and the dreary when he’s striving for himself. I’d not take him when he’s sneering, when he’s scornful or depressed, But I’d look for him at Christmas when he’s shining at his best.

Man is ever in a struggle and he’s oft misunderstood; There are days the worst that’s in him is the master of the good, But at Christmas kindness rules him and he puts himself aside And his petty hates are vanquished and his heart is opened wide. Oh, I don’t know how to say it, but somehow it seems to me That at Christmas man is almost what God sent him here to be.
